At APDI Group, we understand culture as a strategic pillar of identity, cohesion, and forward-looking development. For this reason, we are proud to collaborate with Casa Cultural Federico en Granada in commemorating the centenary of the historic lecture delivered by Federico García Lorca on February 13, 1926: “The Poetic Image of Don Luis de Góngora.”
The commemorative plaque has been installed at the junction of Calle Varela and Calle San Antonio, in Granada’s historic Realejo district. This site once housed the first headquarters of the Ateneo de Granada, the very stage where Lorca delivered a lecture that marked a turning point in Spanish literary thought and positioned the city as a forerunner of the Generación del 27.
The ceremony was attended by artist Miguel Poveda, founder of Casa Cultural Federico, and Granada’s Mayor, Marifrán Carazo, both of whom emphasized the importance of identifying and preserving spaces connected to the life and legacy of the universal poet. Crafted in traditional Granada ceramics, the plaque symbolizes a shared commitment to the city’s literary and historical memory.
More than a commemoration: memory, creation, and future vision
Following the unveiling, the cultural space Un Lugar en Granada opened the exhibition “Góngora–Lorca. 1926: Centenary of the Poetic Image.” The exhibition explores the aesthetic and intellectual dialogue between Lorca and Luis de Góngora, as well as the historical context that shaped the poetic sensibility of the ’27 generation.
The display includes original manuscripts by Lorca referencing the Ateneo of Granada and is complemented by the installation “Soledad insegura” by Granada-based artist EduArtGranada. Inspired by an unpublished Lorca poem, the installation offers a contemporary visual and sound reflection on solitude, vulnerability, and the fragile nature of the creative act.
The tribute also featured a literary moment in which actor Jorge de Juan read excerpts from Lorca’s lecture exactly one hundred years after it was first delivered in that same location. The event concluded with Miguel Poveda’s interpretation of the sonnet that Góngora dedicated to his friend Pedro Soto de Rojas, returning poetry to its original setting.
Drawing a new cultural map for Granada
According to Miguel Poveda, the initiative forms part of a broader goal: “to draw a map we can walk with pride, highlighting places that still hold powerful stories that make us greater.” This project connects memory, territory, and civic identity, while reinforcing Granada’s ambition to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
As a Granada-based consulting firm committed to strategic and cultural development, APDI Group supports initiatives that recover Lorca’s legacy and underscore Granada’s role as a precursor to the Generation of ’27. We firmly believe that safeguarding these milestones is not only an act of remembrance, but also an investment in identity, reputation, and international projection.
The ceremony also included a heartfelt tribute to Councillor Juan Ramón Ferreira, recently deceased, whose dedication to culture and to the Granada 2031 project was warmly remembered by attendees.
This initiative forms part of the broader work carried out by Casa Cultural Federico across various cities to recover and promote Lorca’s memory. Following similar commemorative actions in Valencia, Barcelona, and other locations in Granada, this new plaque further reinforces a shared commitment to illuminating the spaces where cultural history remains alive.
At APDI Group, we will continue supporting projects that, like this one, are born from passion, public-private collaboration, and the conviction that culture is a transformative force capable of building the future from memory.
